During the warm season, the terrace or balcony becomes a second living room for many. A table, chairs, maybe a lounger or bench, outdoor cushions and a few plants - the open-air room is ready. So that you can really enjoy the green oasis, sun protection is essential. Sun sails are an alternative to the parasol that provides shade. The modern shade dispensers offer you shade exactly where you need it. As clever sun protection, they make air conditioning superfluous. How to attach the anchorage storm-proof and fasten the sun sail, read the following step-by-step instructions.
Step 1: measure the awning
How big should the sun sail be? If you already know exactly where the shade should hang later, you can enjoy the advantages of a tailor-made model. The sewing project also becomes upcycling when you use an old sheet. This can be colored according to your mood. The darker the fabric and the denser the fabric, the better it shields the sunlight. Canvas and awning fabrics offer better sun protection.
Add at least 10 percent of the calculated side length of the sail at each corner, otherwise you will not be able to stretch the fabric tightly. Our sail has an edge length of five meters. So the two eyelets on the wall sit six meters apart. In the middle of it, on the wall opposite, set the third attachment point as a post.
Good to know: Our instructions can also be varied as required, for example two posts and only one wall bracket or two sails on one post - according to individual wishes.

Step 2: make anchors
Position a sunshade eyelet on the wall and mark the four screw holes. Drill holes with the drill or - depending on the surface - the hammer drill, blow out the drilling dust and then hammer in dowels. Do the same for the second hole. As a rule, manufacturers also supply the appropriate tools and materials for anchoring.

Draw the screw holes of the anchors on the wall.

Step 3: screw on the wall bracket
Mount the wall brackets with hexagon screws. A socket wrench insert in the drill saves the effort. Stainless steel fittings are recommended because they are weatherproof.

Now you can mount the wall brackets.

Step 4: Concrete the posts for the awning
A metal post provides support for the awning if the wall or tree is missing. Matching metal pipes (10 cm Ø, 4 mm wall thickness) can be found cheaply at the scrap dealer. Drill two holes at the upper end through which you can thread powerful eyebolts. Secure it with a washer and nut. Drill two to three pairs of holes at the lower end, offset in height and 90 degrees. You thread structural steel bars crosswise - they become an anchor in the concrete.
To set the post in concrete, excavate an earth pit approximately 25 x 25 centimeters wide and 80 centimeters deep. Set up the sun sail mast vertically using a spirit level, fix it and pour in self-mixed concrete. Pound the concrete and chamfer it at the top so that the rain runs away from the pipe.

For a secure hold, you need to set the posts in concrete.

Step 5: reinforce the post
In particularly windy areas or if you want to attach a second sun sail, you should reinforce the post inside - this way you avoid the risk of it giving in and buckling under pressure. To do this, place thin structural steel rods in the pipe and pour it out with concrete.

If necessary, reinforce the posts with concrete.

Step 6: hang up the awning
Fastening or tensioning accessories are available for installing the sun sail, which are supplied by the manufacturer: From bottom to top: shackles, carabiners, S-hooks, screw tensioners, belt tensioners. By the way: A sun sail is also a good option for shading the conservatory.

Finally, you can hang up the sun sail.
