Build a swing dino: how it works

Step 1: sawing out

Enlarge each element of the saw template according to the dimensions before printing it out. Then glue the sheets together and cut out the components. Arrange them on the appropriate wooden boards and trace them with a pencil. Then saw out the wood with the jigsaw. Please remember to make the head and tail twice. To make them really identical, place the two boards on top of each other and fix them in between with double-sided tape - so nothing can slip away. Finally, round off all cut edges with child-resistant sandpaper.

Tip: Glued wood does not fray when sawing if you tape the cut edges beforehand with masking tape and saw out everything together with the adhesive tape. Then simply pull the tape off again.

Step 2: glue on the spikes

Saw out the head twice so that the "mane" can be glued between the two parts.

For each point, place two small rectangles of fabric on top of each other on the left and place the volume fleece on them. Sew the serrations with the sewing machine, leaving the bottom edge open. Cut out with 1 cm seam allowance and turn inside out.

Prime the two wooden head and tail parts green at the top edges. To glue them, brush the inside with wood glue, insert the prongs at the top and lay the wooden parts flush on top of each other. Let dry, then fix additionally with 1.5 cm long screws. For the handle, drill a hole using a pot drilling attachment, insert a log and glue it in place.

Step 3: assemble

Now the rocking dinosaur is put together: First screw the seat and trapezoids together. Make sure that the trapezoids do not cover the slots. Then insert the head and tail into the slots and screw them against the inside. The treads are screwed to the side walls. Then connect these with trapezoids and seat. You fix the small backrest from below. Finally, screw the stoppers to the front and rear of the side walls.

Step 4: painting

When painting the rocking dinosaur, use cups of different sizes as templates for the circles and color them in brightly.

Before painting the rocking dinosaur, fill the screw holes with filler and sand over them once. This will make the screws invisible. Then paint the wood completely green with acrylic varnish. Use the cups as templates for eyes, toes and the rest of the circles. To make them look particularly intense, prime them white and then paint them with a brush in your child's favorite colors.

Tip: For a more comfortable swing, you can sew a saddle (made of thick felt, for example) and fix it to the rocking dinosaur using Velcro.
