The corona virus has changed our entire lives. School and daycare centers are temporarily closed and many work in the home office. So that time does not become a stress test for the family, it is important to provide structure in everyday life. In such an exceptional situation, a clear daily routine, which you can define together with the children depending on your age, can help to strengthen your work-life balance. Very important: In addition to the school assignments, the meal and bed times, you should always plan time to play together. Note the different requirements depending on the age, so that the playing time runs as harmoniously as possible. We have collected a variety of tips and ideas for you, which you and your family can use to breathe new life into everyday life in Corona.

Note: All of our game ideas can be played at home and require at least two players. The tips also contain age information so that you can find your way around more easily.

Game tips for crèche and kindergarten children

You need:

  • Chairs
  • Tables
  • Cardboard boxes in different sizes
  • Bedsheet
  • Cover
  • Clothespins

That's how it's done:

Caving is a little easier for small children: Here, just a few elements are enough to build an exciting shelter. It gets interesting with older children from around three years of age. For example, use cardboard boxes to connect different caves to form a large cave system. Bar stools or chairs are suitable as a lookout and you can make yourself really comfortable with cushions. Every builder can contribute his creative ideas. This creates an exciting collaborative project. Finally, invite all family members to the big robber picnic with flashlights in the cave or organize an overnight party with a mattress camp. This can be a lot of fun for older children too.

You need:

  • A treasure (for example sweets, pixie books, new pens, a voucher for a movie night)
  • Hints

That's how it's done:

The highlight of many children's birthdays is an exciting treasure hunt in nature. Since this is not possible at the moment, the scavenger hunt becomes a memorable adventure at home with a bit of imagination. Smaller children usually have a lot of fun when they have to overcome self-made obstacles in search of the treasure. Build a course for climbing, crawling underneath or balancing. Place a few chairs in a row where the children can crawl through. A simple board above is used for balancing and the sofa becomes a climbing rock.

It is exciting for older children to look for objects in the apartment that they have previously taken as large a zoom (possibly also using filters or soft focus) as detailed photos. Alternatively, you can also write small puzzles, in which, for example, a note from grandma and grandpa must be given by phone. Our tip: Older children often also have fun finding a treasure hunt for themselves or younger siblings. So take turns taking turns.

As long as the playgrounds are closed due to Corona, the home will be converted into a climbing course - please always take safety precautions typical of your age.

Indoor cricket

You need:

  • Stable wire
  • stable erasers or plasticine
  • broom
  • Table tennis ball
  • Sponge
  • small stick or pen

That's how it's done:

There is no limit to the imagination of the whole family with indoor cricket. Form small gates together out of wire, which you can either impale on erasers or fix in plasticine. The goal is a small stick or a pointed pen that you put in a sponge. Now build an exciting course through the apartment. The level of difficulty can be expanded as desired using cardboard ramps or cardboard rolls glued together as a tunnel. Each player receives a table tennis ball, which you can also color beforehand. A broom serves as a cricket bat. And off you go.

Indoor sports competition for the whole family

You need:

  • Sportswear
  • possibly exercise mats
  • Balls
  • Other Accessories

That's how it's done:

Everyone in the family is bound to have a favorite sport in which they are particularly good. It doesn't matter whether someone wants to juggle balls with his foot, balance a ball with table tennis bats or you want to overcome an obstacle course - everyone has to participate. Make a plan together with the order of the competitions. It gets even funnier if you also incorporate a few fun elements into the program, for example feather-blowing or balancing toilet paper on your head. You can currently find inspiration in many YouTube videos. Points may be awarded for each section. Whoever has the most points at the end wins the competition and is allowed to choose the next film on your streaming service.

Table tennis at home

You need:

  • table tennis racket
  • Table tennis ball
  • large dining table
  • Screw clamps
  • Washi tape
  • possibly a scarf or piece of fabric

That's how it's done:

Clear your dining table and use Washi-Tape to stick the field markings on the table. You can either mark the net with washi tape or stretch a piece of fabric or a light scarf as a net. Here screw clamps are helpful, with which you can fix your net construction to the table. Get started. If there are several players, you can think of a tournament system. Anyone who loses has to put the dishwasher in the next day.

Become a film team

You need:

  • Lego or Playmobil
  • Cell phone camera
  • simple video program

That's how it's done:

Build one or better several exciting scenes together with Lego figures or Playmobil. Then you define a shooting schedule together and define the individual scenes. Now the plan can be filmed gradually. Perhaps you would also like to set the scenes to music appropriately or the characters get speaking roles. On the computer, especially older children with enthusiasm will be there when it comes to arranging the individual scenes in the correct order with a video program. Let the youngsters try out effects and motivate them to make the film as exciting or fun as possible. The conclusion can be a joint film evening, in which your family program is running. With homemade popcorn this is twice as much fun!

Your family EXIT game

You need:

  • Puzzles and tasks
  • a goal (like a sealed box or door)
  • Egg timer or alarm clock
  • treasure

That's how it's done:

If the children are already too big for a simple scavenger hunt, you can alternatively switch to the trendy EXIT games. You can either buy this in the form of a board game or you can design your own EXIT game for the family yourself. It is always about an exciting story and tasks that have to be solved within a certain time. For example, in your story, you and your fellow combatants have to escape from a prison or tower and defuse a ticking bomb. An exciting accessory for solving the puzzles is a homemade Caesar disc, with which secret messages are decrypted. Even simple questions or school assignments get a whole new attraction in this way. Make sure to set the level of difficulty so that the tasks are not too easy, but everyone has the chance to contribute to the success of the game. The solutions of each topic block provide an indication of how you can solve the EXIT game. Due to the time pressure, this game is also exciting for young people.
