Although the morning energy drink is a matter of course for many today, the beans of the coffea plant were unknown in Europe until the 17th century. From then on, its own coffee culture developed in many countries, above all Austria with its coffee house tradition and Italy. Without espresso, cappuccino and latte macchiato, the triumphal march of coffee shops would never have happened. Coffee is a trend and international competition for filter coffee has long since conquered our hearts and kitchens.

Freshness question: But why is it that the favorite variant doesn't taste as good at home as it does on vacation? Possibly on the powder, which quickly loses its aroma. For a more intense taste, you'd better buy coffee beans and grind them as needed - the finer, the tarter the coffee. If the drink is too strong for you, it may not be due to too much powder. Never leave open packs open: so that no foreign smells mix into the aroma, fill the coffee in a well-sealed can, which you can store in a cool, dry place.

No problem with the crema: espresso not only gives you a quick caffeine kick, but is also part of many Italian coffee specialties. It is all the more important that the strong roasted mixture is prepared well - that is to say, in this case, too. For this you need 6-7 g of finely ground arabica beans per cup. A coffee machine presses hot water onto the powder and conjures up a caffè espresso in a maximum of 30 seconds. The "express coffee" is perfect when it is covered by a thin layer of hazelnut brown foam.

Types of coffee

The rich coffee offer leaves some customers undecided in front of the shelf. Mixtures of the Arabica and Robusta varieties are almost always in the packs. Fine arabica is most commonly grown worldwide. Because of its low and balanced caffeine content, it is considered to be well tolerated. There is twice as much caffeine in the harder Robusta bean, but less acid, it is cheaper. Skillfully combined, the flavors of both varieties meet the taste of most consumers. There are tasty subspecies, such as Kenya beans. For espresso, predominantly Arabica beans from several regions are mixed and roasted dark.


The bean contains around 1, 000 substances, the best known being caffeine, which makes you more alert and receptive. Incidentally, coffee only increases the blood pressure of people who are caffeine-free. If we start drinking it regularly, a caffeine tolerance develops within a few days, and blood pressure remains stable after consumption.
