Video: Small stuff: From N for nettle to W for faux fur

nettle
Collective term for unbleached and undyed cotton fabrics. Is used as a decorative fabric and white cushion.
organza
Very dazzling, transparent decorative fabric with a hard handle made of → silk, → viscose or synthetic. Tends to crease.
Panne velvet
→ Velvet, the pile of which is made of synthetic fiber or → silk is flattened in any pattern by ironing or pressing ("pannier"). An additional effect is often a crash structure. Decorative as a bedspread and pillow case.
Pique, also piqué
Double fabric with a relief-like and often waffle-like look, which is why it is also called a waffle pique. Typical laundry material for sleeping and bathing areas.
Polyacrylic, polyamide, polyester
Fully synthetic decorative fabrics with advantageous properties: hard-wearing, easy-care, colourfast and dimensionally stable. Are also often woven with natural fibers. Are mainly used for upholstery fabrics.
Ribs
Mostly transversely, less often longitudinally ribbed fabric that is used as furniture and curtain fabric.
velvet
Woven fabric with a pile of a maximum of 3 mm. Mostly made of cotton or synthetic fibers. The colors appear more intense if the fabric is processed against the grain when sewing. Popular for curtains and pillow cases.
satin
Fine-thread weave made in satin weave. Smooth, shiny top and matt bottom, made of cotton or → polyester, among others. The epitome of luxurious bedding.
Virgin wool
High quality wool, the name may only be used for wool from living sheep used for the first time. Many areas of application, for example for high-quality floor coverings.
silk
The finest of all natural fibers. There are different types of silk. The highest quality comes from the cocoon construction of the mulberry silk spinner's caterpillar. The soft, flowing material keeps you warm in winter and cools in summer. It is dimensionally stable, but also very sensitive to light and can break under the sun's rays. That is why silk curtains are backed.
Taffeta
Noble material, whether made from pure or artificial silk such as → acetate. Its matt, intense shine, which can also change, is typical. Popular as curtain fabric.
tulle
Fine (curtain tulle) or coarse mesh (architect's tulle) mesh. Because tulle is semi-transparent, it is used in the living area primarily for curtains or as a decorative fabric.
Velor
Fabric with a velvety surface. The pile is longer than with the velvet, which makes the fabric even softer. The longer it is, the more likely it will snap. This manifests itself in seat covers as a seat mirror, in carpets there are traces if, for example, a table is in the same place for a long time.
viscose
Cellulose-based man-made fiber. Soft, flowing and silky shiny. Versatile as a decorative fabric, it must be washed and ironed carefully.
Voile
Veil-like, feather-light decorative fabric. Mostly made of cotton, but can also be made from silk or viscose. Popular for curtains.
Faux fur
Imitation fur, which is only suitable as furniture cover in high quality - inexpensive fits quickly flat.
