Video: DIY instructions: decorate the table with crown caps
Embellish your home in an original and affordable way: Decorated with crown caps, furniture and home accessories become unique - like this self-made table.
- MDF board: 52 x 52 cm, 10 mm thick
- Legs: square wood 4 pieces of 4 x 4 x 40 cm
- Slats: 4 pieces of 2 x 6 x 35 cm
- Last 1 x 3 cm: 2 pieces of 54 cm each
- Wood glue
- Cordless screwdriver
- Nails, screws
- Bottle cap
- Glue gun
- Joint rubber
How to do it:
If the bottle hisses when opened, the bottle cap has served its purpose. You throw it away, for most people it is nothing more than garbage. Bottle caps transform furniture and home accessories into great individual pieces. On Ebay, Amazon and in other online shops you can order the sheet metal lid in a 100-pack, for example. Or just ask in the nearest cinema or restaurant if there are any left.
Assemble the table
Build a table with crown caps.
First measure the position of the table legs and mark them on the underside of the table top. Then screw the table together: First glue the square wood as the legs to the bottom of the table top, then screw it on from above (through the table top). Extra struts are required to stabilize the table: Glue a crossbar between the two legs on the underside of the table. Now the table top is covered: glue the strips around the outside of the table and fix it with small nails.
Glue the mosaic
Cover the table with crown caps.
Use a ruler to draw a grid of 9 x 9 cm squares on the plate as an adhesive. Exactly nine bottle caps fit into a square. Work from one square to the next so that the distances between the lids become regular. If you have time, sticking with silicone is worth it - the material needs a night to harden, but it can be touched up and slipped. With the glue gun, on the other hand, you can start grouting right away. The following applies here: work carefully, because the hot glue quickly hardens and the bottle caps become hot! Apply the adhesive directly to the table top, press the lid firmly into place.
Mix the grout with water. Groove the interstices of the bottle caps with gloves and sponges. Pull off in all directions with the joint rubber. Wipe off the excess mortar with a damp sponge, allow to dry and wipe off.
Grout the table with crown caps.
After drying, wipe with a microfiber cloth. Finally, paint the legs with white acrylic paint to match the grout.
Polish table with crown caps.
For the chic bottle cap pillow you need a plain pillow case, a transfer film for dark textiles, scissors, an inkjet printer and an iron.
And this is how it works: First wash and let the cushion cover dry. Scan the bottle caps and enlarge them on the computer, print out the motif on the special film, cut out and iron on.
