How does a low temperature radiator work?

Low flow temperatures, flat but large radiators and heating by means of thermal radiation - these are the most important properties of a low-temperature heating. Specifically, it is about a flow temperature of 45 degrees Celsius - about half of a conventional heating system. With water-based heating, the choice of low-temperature radiators results in savings of up to 25 percent in primary energy. Combined with a heat pump, it is even up to 35 percent.

Specially designed, comparatively large heating surfaces and a sophisticated technical system ensure that your four walls are cozy and warm with less heat than with a conventional heating system - which in turn helps you to save energy and money.

In principle, low-temperature radiators can be operated with all heating systems. However, if you want to install a low-temperature heater in your house, it is important that everything from the heat generator (low-temperature boiler for oil or gas, condensing heating, heat pump or solar heating system) to the low-temperature radiator must be suitable for this type of heating. Experts even recommend purchasing everything from one company, since then the coordination is perfect and the system can work most efficiently - ergo without energy loss. This is the quickest way to amortize the high initial costs.

What are low temperature radiators?

Low-temperature radiators are also called low-temperature, low-temperature and heat pump radiators. Made of aluminum or profiled sheet steel, low-temperature radiators are flat, thin plates with comparatively large areas that emit the heating heat via baffles. They react very quickly when switched on and off and warm up within a very short time, since they require a low surface temperature and contain very efficient heat exchangers. In addition, a low-temperature radiator with the same area as a finned radiator provides two to three times more heat. Integrated fans, also called activators, increase the heat output when required by sending more air along the heating surfaces. However, low-temperature radiators automatically prevent the rooms from overheating. The type of heat distribution also prevents the typical winter phenomenon in the apartment: cold feet and a glowing face, goodbye!

The high proportion of radiation when distributing the heat helps people with dust in the house in particular to survive the heating season without any problems, since low-temperature radiators practically do not raise dust. But also non-allergy sufferers benefit from the functionality of the low-temperature radiators, because the indoor climate is generally much better and the air in particular cannot dry out as much as with a finned radiator of the convection system - the room feels even and at a pleasant temperature.

Ceiling and floor heating systems as well as wall heating systems can also be connected as low-temperature radiators to a low-temperature system and, according to various manufacturers, save up to 30 percent of their energy consumption.

Having large white panels on the wall is not for everyone. But low-temperature radiators can be optically adapted to the wishes and the furnishing concept of the house owner. Not only do manufacturers such as Zehnder and Jaga offer the low-temperature radiators in various, mostly muted colors - they are also available with grooves, a semicircular profile and even for curved walls. In addition, of course, there are the special low-temperature radiators for the bathroom. They are also available from the factory in all shades of white, gray and black.

What does a low temperature radiator cost?

For a small, standardized, i.e. white / beige, low-temperature radiator, you pay around 100 euros. With a length of 400 millimeters and a width of 600 millimeters, a low-temperature radiator costs around 135 euros. The largest version, 2000 millimeters long and 600 millimeters wide, is around 340 euros.

If you want a special color, the smallest model can easily get 200 euros or more per radiator. In addition, there are the costs for the condensing boiler - between 6, 000 and 25, 000 euros depending on the version. Add up the costs for the work to remove the old heating system, replace the radiators and install the new low-temperature system - there is a lot going on. So if you are thinking about renovating your house, you should calculate when the old radiators and the old heating will have had their day and then install the low-temperature heating and have the new radiators calculated. For new buildings, experts recommend placing such an energy-efficient system immediately.
