Petrol used to be called sea green - no wonder, because the color is reminiscent of the vastness of the sea or the blue needles of a spruce. Depending on the incidence of light, the color spectrum ranges from strong blue to shades of green - one then speaks of either petrol green or petrol blue.
Although the color is occasionally discovered in nature, it doesn't have a long tradition: it wasn't until 2015 that you suddenly saw it on all the catwalks in the world, and the trend color for autumn and winter was chosen. The color also became harmonious in the interior design, for example in the wall design and furniture design. It is still popular today because it gives depth to a room and convinces with countless possible combinations.

Effect of petrol
The color petrol is assigned to the element of water and is particularly popular in autumn. In all cases, the mix of blue and green is elegant and calming. Depending on the intensity and mixture, petrol can be profound, cheerful and cheerful without conveying the cold of a normal blue. If you are still looking for an atmospheric color in your living room, Petrol is the right choice. The color is even said to be able to slow the heartbeat of the resident and thus have a relaxing effect on the viewer. Good to know: The darker and richer the color, the more mystical it looks.
Which colors go with petrol?
Complementary colors
If turquoise or cyan is too intrusive and bright, choose a more subtle color with petrol that is easy to combine. Depending on the tint and the incidence of light, the color can take on different nuances and, for example, more reminiscent of blue or even more of green.
If you paint a complete room in color, you run the risk that the room will look too dark and depressing. It is therefore essential to work with contrasts in other colors: strong yellow, orange or red tones are perfect, for example, because they complement green and blue to bring freshness to the room and at the same time serve as an eye-catcher.

Complementary colors like a strong yellow go well with petrol. Work with accessories that you can always replace.

Combination with white
If you paint your walls with a dark petrol color, you should set bright accents to loosen up the room and create bright spots. This works, for example, with a white wooden chest of drawers or many individual bright decorative objects such as candle holders, pillows or bowls. However, it does not always have to be pure white. Other soft tones such as off-white, beige or sand can also be combined well with petrol.

In this room, the white ceiling and the white floor frame the strong petrol blue, so that the room is by no means depressing and small.
Tip: It is better to use light petrol for small rooms.

Combination with black and gray
It quickly becomes clear that the possibilities of combining petrol are hardly limited. A completely gray tiled bathroom usually looks puristic and cold. If you want to bring some variety into the room, choose individual pieces of furniture in petrol such as a washstand. The room remains clear, but no longer appears sterile. Rather, the eye focuses on the strong contrast to the cool gray.
But even in rooms that are furnished in a modern country style, petrol goes well with rustic furniture in powder or lime gray. In front of a white wall, the furniture would not come out as well as in combination with the trend color.

Combination with natural tones
Natural tones are always welcome in the interior and bring calmness into play. For example, all shades of brown are suitable as a combination. Dark brown and light brown furniture made of wood or leather look particularly classy and stylish in front of a wall painted with petrol. At first glance, the combination with black seems atypical, black petrol appears more subtle and the room gets a modern, dramatic touch.
But warm olive or lime green also goes well with petrol and creates a cozy living atmosphere.
A combination of different shades of blue is suitable for a real underwater world flair. Use the entire spectrum of the different shades of teal. For example, paint a wall in petrol and then choose furniture, textiles and decorative elements in different shades of blue - from light to dark. Due to the use of different materials and structures, the room does not appear monotonous.

Romantic flair
A simple wall in petrol already looks mystical. If you combine the color with purple tones or strong violet, this room screams with opulence. With the help of oversized floral patterns on pillows or as wallpaper, you create a room in the style of dark romanticism.

Which materials are suitable for petrol?
Petrol is a rich wall color that harmonises well with, for example, velvet furniture. But shimmering materials such as damask, cashmere or silk are also suitable for the interior. You create special eye-catchers with highlights such as a large mirror or picture frame made of brass.
Even in boho style, you can always find petrol-colored walls that form a calm background in the middle of the mix of styles. So that the room does not appear overloaded, it can also be helpful to use an accent color very often. This creates uniformity.
In combination with light wooden furniture, associations with the beach and the sea are created. The maritime influence can be strengthened by using additional white paint.
