Is your wall missing a little atmosphere? Then provide atmospheric light with Asian lamps. Paper umbrellas with patterns made from bamboo leaves and branches bring Far Eastern flair to your home and transform rooms into oriental wellness oases. At the same time, they are decorative wall decorations and an eye-catcher in dark corners.
You need it
- Large garbage bag
- duct tape
- Transparent Paper
- Paste and some wood glue
- big brush
- Bamboo leaves and branches
- Joss paper (lucky paper from the China store)
- two general purpose brackets
- a nylon cord
- For the light source: wall spotlights or line lamps. If there is no direct power connection in the wall: a Euro cable with switch and plug.

This is what the Asian lamps look like ready-made. Wonderful: dark wood and warm tones, for example as a wall paint.

Step 1: attach light source
A wall spot or line lamp is suitable as a light source for your Asian lamps. You can buy both in the hardware store or electronics store. First drill holes in the wall, then screw on the bracket and mount the lamp. Just do not use halogen lamps - they heat up excessively and there is a risk of fire for the paper screen. If you want to hang the decorative lamp on a wall without a direct power connection, get a Euro cable with plug and switch in the hardware store. The cable is simply screwed to the luster terminal in the lamp.

Step 1 for the Asian paper lamps: attach the light source to the wall.

Step 2: build the umbrella
Tear the tracing paper into pieces about 15 by 15 centimeters. Then mix the paste and add a dash of wood glue. Put about a tablespoon of glue on 250 milliliters of paste. This makes the lamp more resistant and it can even be wiped with a damp cloth. Spread the garbage bag on the table, fix it with adhesive tape on the sides and moisten it slightly. Place the first layer of paper in the desired shape on the moist garbage bag. Now generously coat them with paste and place the next layer on top. This way you glue two to three layers of paper on top of each other.

Step 2 when crafting the Asian lamps: paste pieces of paper on top of each other. This is how the screen is created.

Step 3: stick on the sheets
Now the Asian lamp gets a nice pattern. To do this, press individual bamboo leaves, whole branches or Joss paper onto the well pasted surface. Then paste at least one more layer of paper and cover the leaves and branches with it. The structure must dry well for several hours. Tip: If you weigh down the corners with weights when drying, then not too big waves will form. Slight warps, on the other hand, are desirable because they give structure to the lampshade. The drying process is accelerated by blow drying evenly.

Step 3 for the Asian lamps: incorporate bamboo.

Alternatively or in addition to the bamboo, you can also incorporate nicely patterned Joss paper into the Asian lamps.

Step 4: hang up the lamp
Clamp two general-purpose clips to the top two corners of the Asian lamp. Attach two small hooks to the ceiling and make sure there is enough space between the light source and the paper screen. Then you can hang the wall lamp with a nylon cord.

Step 4: Hang the Asian lamps on two brackets and nylon cord.
