Video: Furnishing bedrooms: many examples

Personal well-being, peace and relaxation are very important here: we want to relax in the bedroom and spend time with our family. To do this, you need an inviting atmosphere and clarity in the concept. In our living tips we tell you what you should look out for when furnishing and designing your bedroom in terms of color choice, material mix & Co. and how you can get maximum sleep quality out of small rooms and in the absence of space.
Do you want to design and furnish your bedroom but don't know how to start? Then it helps to first take stock and analyze how the room as a whole affects you and others. In the second step, define what you want your bedroom to have in terms of color, style and functions. Virtual facility planners can help you make decisions.
Furnishing bedrooms: from idea to implementation
How you design and furnish your bedroom is first and foremost a question of your personality: while one dreams of a colonial-style bed with a white canopy, the next should be a puristic bedroom with industrial charm. Others find the country house style or modern Scandinavian design just right. Adapt the selection of furniture and colors to your primary concept and develop a common thread along this initial idea that runs through the design of your bedroom.
Remember that themed rooms, such as a green room with a tropical flair, floral patterns or decorative wallpaper, can tire you in the long run and you will long for calm colors again after a short time. It therefore makes sense to use patterns only sparingly and to introduce thematic accents in the form of pictures, decorative elements or textiles. These are easier to replace than a wall that has been wallpapered.

Find the right color concept
The choice of color in the bedroom should primarily correspond to your personal preferences and form a holistic concept: So don't combine too many shades, but decide in advance for two to three basic shades that you want to pick up on. Additional colors that you bring in should be based on these basic shades by either adding another shade of the same shade or the same color group or deliberately contrasting them.
If you want to design your bedroom in mint green, for example, combine matching, harmonizing pastel shades. In contrast, the delicate pastel tones have an unfavorable effect with bright retro colors. If you are unsure, you can use a virtual room planner and experiment with wall colors, for example, before you apply the brush yourself. The basic effect of colors should also be taken into account when deciding on the color concept: light colors create clarity and let you breathe easy, while dark colors convey intimacy and security. Shades of blue and green create calm, while shades of yellow tend to cheer up.

Bright colors create clarity and let you breathe a sigh of relief.

Too small, too high: the right proportions in the bedroom
Incorrect proportions can lead to irritation when you furnish your bedroom: Old buildings with enormous ceilings can be reduced in size and, for example, a colored ceiling, and vice versa, and brought down. Small rooms, on the other hand, benefit from tall pieces of furniture that visually raise the ceiling. When buying furniture, you should also think about how you want to set up the future bedroom: A large bed belongs in a large room, otherwise a small bedroom will soon look too narrow.
Blackout options
Half-dense curtain fabrics darken sufficiently in the evening and let some light shine through in the morning, which helps the biorhythm when getting up. If you prefer to use white or light-colored fabrics in the bedroom due to the color choice, you can also install a roller blind to darken the room and provide appropriate privacy. The typical "hotel solution" of a double curtain, which consists of an opaque, heavy curtain fabric and a light white curtain attached behind it, has also proven its worth. This means that the room can be completely darkened and brightened again as required and depending on the situation.

Creative solutions for "Open Concept" rooms & home offices
Whether you live in the loft, live in a studio apartment or simply set up your home office due to a lack of space in the bedroom, in any case you should ensure that the work corner does not visually impair the atmosphere in the sleeping area. Specifically, this means that computers, cables and technology are cleverly stowed in hidden compartments and drawers so that a tidy impression is created as soon as you enter the room. There are suitable secretaries to fold out especially for this purpose, as well as designer desks with hidden storage space under the folding worktop. Cable covers, cable spirals or, very creatively, DIY boxes in subtle or eye-catching colors are suitable for hiding cables and chargers - depending on the taste and style of the furnishings. If you want to visually shield the work corner, set up a screen as a privacy screen or mount a sliding curtain or roller blind on the ceiling.

Bedspreads, pillowcases, carpets, pillowcases and, of course, bed linen are ideal for creating a color identity in the room.

Opulence desired: designing bedrooms with textiles
Although excessive decoration in the bedroom is rather out of place, there is no need to save on textiles. Curtain fabrics, bedspreads, bedspreads, pillowcases, carpets and, of course, bed linen are ideal for creating a color identity in the room - and playing with a mix of materials and surfaces.
Those who rely on the country house classic, for example, combine white and light tones, such as a white bedspread with a sand-colored quilt and dove-blue linen pillows. Conversely, if you want to make your bedroom dark and mysterious, you can use noble accents with fabrics such as velvet and satin and colors such as emerald green, royal blue or violet shades. A canopy over the four-poster bed brings the Orient into your own four walls - especially if you use Indian or Oriental fabrics.

Pillows, bedspreads & Co.: Use color accents deliberately
On the other hand, it looks modern when playing with contrasts: anthracite, white and black are the colors of choice for a contemporary interior design in the bedroom. With geometric patterns and eye-catching color accents through carpets, extra pillows, bedspreads or plaids, you create eye-catchers. Those who want to furnish the bedroom in a minimalistic way, however, consciously limit themselves to a maximum of two to three colors when choosing the color of the textiles. This creates visual calm and clarity.

The right bed for your bedroom
As a striking piece of furniture in the bedroom, you should choose your bed with a view of the room in which it is placed. A small room appears quickly overloaded with a box bed, whereas in a large room this is of little importance and is even extremely practical in view of the additional storage space. Beds with legs generally look particularly light and fit harmoniously into any room.
You can use the head end of the bed as an important style element: whether leather cushions, velvet upholstery in Chesterfield look or solid wooden panels. When mixing the materials, pay attention to the rest of the design of the room and the textiles and colors that you want to use when designing your bedroom.

Interior experts advise: If you place the bed with the head end against the wall, it will sleep more safely and safely.

Set up bedroom: focus on the bed
The only question left is: where to put the bed? If you believe the furnishing principles of Feng Shui, the bed should neither be directly between the window and door nor point directly at the door. According to furnishing consultants, if the bed is upside down or on the long side against the wall, it is cheaper than a free-standing bed in order to feel safe and secure when sleeping. On the other hand, it is a matter of taste whether the daylight falls on the headboard or on the side of the bed.
Wardrobe or invisible storage space?
Basically, the better you make your clothes disappear, the clearer and tidier your bedroom will look. So if you can divide a corner or alcove of a room with the help of a curtain or a sliding door as a walk-in, invisible wardrobe, you have already won half. If this is not possible, you need a regular wardrobe. Here you can take advantage of the following tricks: Increase the spatial effect with mirrored doors in the wardrobe or choose a cabinet color that matches the wall color behind it: For example, white on white, gray on gray. So the weighty wardrobe does not get too much in view.

Conversely, a special unique wardrobe can also be used as an eye-catcher - provided there is enough space so that the bedroom does not appear overwhelming. On the other hand, open shelf and cupboard concepts should only be decided by those who actually manage with little clothing or who keep orderly. Otherwise the bedroom will quickly become chaotic.

The basics for clean sleeping
We have long known from sleep research that electronic devices are not particularly conducive to a healthy sleep quality, since they extend the time required to fall asleep. It is therefore well advised to ban smartphone, TV and laptop from the bedroom. But it is not just electrical detox that is important for restful sleep: options for adequate darkening and noise protection, for example through soundproof windows, are among the basics. In addition, a lot of things can be done to ensure a good night's sleep with calm colors, the choice of a stable bed frame and a high-quality mattress with the right degree of firmness.

Moody backlighting is usually more pleasant than bright ceiling lamps.

Bring light into the bedroom: with lights & Co
Admittedly, the ceiling lamp alone is usually a rather uncomfortable light source in the bedroom. In contrast, indirect light sources behind the bed head, under or above wall shelves or the built-in cabinet are advantageous. Arc lamps and dimmable floor lamps can also create an atmospheric background light - ideally always in combination with a bright reading lamp directly above or next to the bed.

Lights behind the bed head are ideal to create cosiness. And of course for reading.

The little 1x1: decoration and accessories in the bedroom
The chosen concept and the tonality of the bedroom can be wonderfully emphasized with accessories and decorative elements: two or three elements of one type should be used to achieve a harmonious effect. Arrange a collection of pictures together on the wall, set up matching side tables or vases or pimp up the look with hanging lampshades or lightbulbs in industrial style. Motif, pattern, color or material of the decorative elements should match each other. Last but not least, personal souvenir objects, which are particularly emphasized on a colored background or with lighting, give a bedroom an individual, characterful note.

The bedside table - an all-rounder with storage space qualities
Gone are the days when a bedside table in the style of an interior corresponded to the bed frame. Anything you like is allowed: baskets, boxes, metal tables, cubic cubes or solid wood cabinets. But when choosing, also remember: the more storage space your bedside table version offers you, the less you will have to worry later about the small items that are lying around.

If you want to use the bedside table as a shelf, it is important to pay attention to the size and storage space.

Overview of small and large order helpers
A bed with bed drawers, a bedside table with storage space, a walk-in closet in the room niche or a sloping roof - there are many space savers that make it easier for you to furnish your bedroom so that it always looks inviting and tidy. A bedspread creates peace and order in the room - even on days when things have to be done quickly. If the room already seems overloaded, the following trick also helps in addition to mucking out and stowing: painting walls and furniture in the same color where possible - this creates a visual connection and uniformity.

In order to create order in the bedroom, it can help to keep walls, furniture and also the blankets for the bed in similar colors.
Additional ideas for bedrooms with lots of space
Bed, dessert and cupboard are available - and you still have empty corners of the room that you would like to fill visually? Try out a cozy reading and seating area, for example with an wing chair, side table and floor lamp as a retreat. Even a designer chair in front of the window enhances the look of your bedroom immensely.
By the way: a long footstool at the end of the bed is a practical storage space that can be used to bring additional materials and colors into the bedroom.

Large bedrooms can be embellished and made more comfortable by simply setting up a reading or sitting area in front of a window.

Furnish bedroom - what type are you?
As is well known, the tastes are different. One likes it cozy and colorful, the other prefers clear and straight. Whether we have good and restful sleep depends not only on our lifestyle, but also on the furnishings. Because colors and materials have a direct impact on our well-being and affect our state of mind. When you enter your bedroom: how do you feel? Are you happy to finally relax in this room, or is there more unrest because there may be a mess? Then it is high time for a small or large redesign. No matter how big your bedroom is - there are many ways to set it up according to your own needs.
Details in the bedroom

Good materials such as high-quality linen increase well-being in the bedroom.

If you want to re-furnish or remodel your bedroom, it is important to take your time. First, think about what you like. Here you should proceed step by step and not set everything up at once. Do you like color on the walls? Or should it be rather calm and simple? Then small details such as straw hats or fresh flowers are nice highlights. Sometimes less is more - and personal things or memorabilia provide security. If you keep the bedroom rather simple by painting the walls white or light gray, a colored carpet or single colored pillows can be nice details. Especially when the room is not larger than 15 square meters you should choose bright colors for the bedroom that make the room appear larger.
Urban jungle look for the bedroom

The jungle-like greenery-look bedrooms create an exotic atmosphere. Above all, green can be combined well with natural materials such as wood. If you don't want to limit yourself to just one tone, you can set small eye-catchers with yellow and blue cushions. Cuba fans will get their money's worth.

Boho look in the sleeping area
Materials such as canvas and linen are the basis for this style. They bring the necessary heat to concrete, which can be found in many lofts or old converted factory buildings today. There are also warm and rich spice colors such as orange, mustard yellow, brown, rust red and deep blue.

If you like the natural boho style, you should choose earthy tones such as deep rust red, dark beige and mustard yellow.

One thing is clear: minimalism in the bedroom
Anyone who has ever been to Japan knows this clear style. Here you really restrict yourself to the bare essentials. The furnishings must be as functional as possible and take up little space. In terms of color, you don't make big leaps, but you rely on the highest quality when choosing the materials. High-quality linen or cotton fabrics form the basis here.

Less and even less: clear colors and shapes in the bedroom have a calming effect on our minds.

Muted tones in the bedroom
If you have a preference for rich and deep tones, you can rely on a blue-gray combination. So that the whole thing does not look too gloomy, large green plants should be given plenty of space.
