A bare wall behind the bed usually looks drab and loveless. The bed with a headboard is more inviting. Whether bought or built yourself - the design options for the headboard are great. We give 11 inspiration ideas.
Leather upholstery for the rural style
The most common and most comfortable is a padded back wall, which is available in all colors and materials. Make sure that the headboard visually matches the rest of the facility. Here, a leather headboard was chosen that optimally picks up on the rural style of the room.

Many beds are already sold with a matching headboard.

Interchangeable wall cloths
A blanket or a cloth is much cheaper than the head of the bed. Especially in teenagers' rooms, wall cloths with traditional mandalas and oriental symbols are becoming increasingly common. For example, you can use tacks to attach the towels to the wall. However, curtain clips are better - this way the cloth can be removed or replaced at any time without leaving any traces on the wall.

Wall scarves come in different sizes and with many different patterns.

Wood - naturally beautiful
Beds are usually made of wood. It is therefore no wonder that headboards are also made from the natural material. Depending on your preferences, you can paint the wood as you like. Anyone who furnishes a Scandi look prefers to choose natural, light wood. Materials such as cotton, linen and fur go perfectly with it.

If you want to paint your headboard yourself, you should use colors that are harmless to health.

Stucco for that certain something
If you make your own headboard, you can be creative - why not just attach stucco moldings to the back wall and use it to stage a headboard? The idea is inexpensive and quick to implement, and you also create a charming flair.

Stucco moldings are easy to process. If you want, you can then paint them with solvent-free wall paints.

Upcycling in the bedroom
In upcycling, waste products and useless objects are recycled according to the motto "make old =" "new". An old picket fence was used for this headboard. The “shabby chic” was continued on the side table, which consists of the same fence slats.

Upcycling demands creativity - an old picket fence becomes an eye-catcher here.

OSB boards - not only suitable for construction
This example shows that OSB panels are not only used in house construction. In combination with light pastel colors and houseplants, the plate fits perfectly into the room and gives it a natural look. For an OSB installation board with the dimensions 22mm x 250 cm x 125 cm you have to expect about 30 euros.

OSB panels have a natural look and are stable. The distinctive texture is also becoming increasingly popular indoors.

Braided headboard
Headboard with a difference - the semi-circular, braided bed headboard is a real eye-catcher in the bedroom and goes well with a folklore-style interior: mix patterns and materials and create a cheerful atmosphere in which you would like to retreat.

Not only does the material of the bed head look extraordinary, the shape also makes the bed the focal point in the room.

Old doors with new functions
Do you still have old doors left over from the renovation? Perfect! Then you can continue to use it as a headboard. Here, white cassette doors were placed behind the bed - a charming idea, especially in country-style houses.

Apparently useless objects like these doors often offer unimagined potential.

Wall stem for more space
In this case, a wall porch acts both as the headboard and as a storage space. If you renovate your house, you can plan such a project in good time and do without side tables. How you dress up the ledge depends on your furnishing style. For example, you can grab wooden slats or paper the wall. You can highlight the cover board in color as shown here or choose a different material.

A ledge not only creates more floor space in the bathroom. In the bedroom you can do without a side table and at the same time create a headboard for the bed.

Velvet elegance
This curved headboard is particularly elegant. In terms of color, it matches the rest of the room perfectly. Velvet is a suitable material for such a headboard.

Headboards are available in all shapes. This curved model looks particularly elegant.

DIY: wall decal
If you like to implement DIY projects, you can work with wall decals in the children's room, for example. The advantage: they can be removed at any time.

Children's rooms are constantly being changed. If you don't want to commit yourself to a headboard, you can work with wall decals.

Step 1: build the back wall
Saw the roof battens and screw them onto the chipboard as shown in the drawing. A cross strut in the middle stabilizes the whole.

Step 2: pad the back wall
Place the foam on the chipboard and fold it over at the edges. You must now staple it on the back of the roof battens.
Good to know: You can also use thick foam (up to five centimeters), but you should attach it flush. Next, the bottom fabric is stapled - pull it smooth and place it cleanly on the corners.

Step 3: sew the fabric
Hem your fabric with the sewing machine. However, if you iron the edges beforehand, it will be easier. Sew Velcro to the top of the back of the fabric.

Step 4: attach covers
The counterpart of the Velcro tape is now stapled on the back of the wood. Velcro the fabric panels, place them over the back wall and fix the ends with the mattress. Your bed head is finished.
