Setting up small apartments to save space - Our examples from three wonderful interior design books show how you can save space in small apartments in the city and still feel comfortable.

The dining table on the wall is space-saving

Who says that a dining table must be in the middle of the room? This table sneaks almost invisibly into the living room - and flows almost seamlessly into the bookshelf. Even if the zeitgeist shows us that what has been read is old-fashioned: Many of us still like to surround ourselves with our favorite reading. There is space for this even in the smallest apartment. Lined up as stylishly as here, books and accessories create a cozy atmosphere. The dining table in the example is also perfect as a workplace. With the chairs from the 3107 series by Arne Jacobsen, the mini living room becomes a real classic. If you prefer to put your legs up, take a break on the sofa next to it.

Tip: Read here how much storage space you can get out of small kitchens.

Save space: desk in the corner

No space for the desk? In this example, yes! Without further ado, the resident turned a niche in the living-dining room into a work corner. An expansive cupboard had to give way. Simple shelves from the hardware store, supported by angles, create filigree lightness. To differentiate it from the living room, the young woman chose a jungle wallpaper with a wow effect. When friends are there, she puts the stacking chair on the dining table.

Giant mirror for the bathroom

The mini bath need not be a limitation. Planned to save space with plenty of storage space and storage space, it remains a spacious wellness and relaxation oasis, albeit on a few square meters. The round, stylish sink, for example, steals the show from the tub. You're welcome, no problem! Because both get a soothing Zen accent through the storage board and the bathtub top, which elegantly cancel out supposed contradictions. The custom-made mirror cabinet hides bottles, tubes, razor and toothbrush. Even the medicine chest can find enough space here. The large mirror surface en passant ensures that the mini bathroom gains space - if only apparently.

Set up small apartments: space is under each staircase

Chic, the glass boards under the stairs. The resident is an artist and unobtrusively stages her collection here: sculptures, lamps, porcelain boxes and two finely framed old photographs. On the wall, she uses every free space to present her pictures - and creates an enchanting backdrop for the viewer. Please also admire how modern lithographs in reduced frames and paintings with a wide gold rim harmonize excellently here.

Space-saving room dividers

Clever how the narrow board separates the living area from the dining table. The half-height shelf was filled on one side with dishes and wine bottles - easy to reach when guests were sitting at the table. Books and magazines are ready if you make yourself comfortable to read on Sundays. Whether after breakfast or after the afternoon siesta - the residents bravely grab both sides.

Bedroom in the separate room

In some mini-apartments, sleeping inevitably takes place quite prominently. To the detriment of the residents. Because in the evening the sofa first has to open before you can sink to bed dead tired. Or much worse: During the day, the bed with pillows and duvets remains unmistakable troublemaker. That does not really have to be: Glass sliding doors in fresh green make the one-room apartment a comfortable two-room apartment. The sleeping area disappears wonderfully elegant and becomes a retreat. In the large living room, the variable shelving system offers generous storage space for storage boxes, books, magazines. And that without looking chaotic. Select the containers in uniform colors, this will allow you to relax - in the example, black and white. The design of tables and chairs is kept extra simple, which gives the room additional lightness.

Dressing room behind stylish wall

Cabinets are often monstrous and still too small. Therefore: hide your clothes behind a walk-in wall. It even fits in the smallest apartment. In the example, shelves and drawers are hidden behind variable sliding doors. They are discreetly kept in aubergine and warm wood, bordered by aluminum. The wall blends inconspicuously into the action and creates a separate dressing room.

Saving real space: There is space in the closet for your bed

The wall bed is back - and we can be happy. Because formerly rather conservative, it has now mutated into a multifunctional wonder with style. Almost a must-have! Equipped with a desk or shelf during the day, the office presents itself as a chic and comfortable rest area at night. Fold-away beds are finally freed from the mess of the last millennium - and help save space in the most elegant way.

Space-saving cloakroom in the door frame

This former door frame is filled with shelves for books, keys and shoes. Next to it, two ladders with hooks hold cloakroom pieces and even high-heeled shoes. So the lady of the house can present her high heels as eye-catchers. The previously unused passage becomes a catchment basin for coats, umbrellas and boots - the perfect wardrobe has been found.

Set up small apartments: the kitchen in the mini-niche

This mini kitchen in the niche shines in the truest sense of the word. The tiles shimmer white, as does the extractor hood - this gives size optically. Such narrow work surfaces and shelves quickly appear exuberant, chaotic and untidy. Not in this example. The residents limit themselves to a few pieces and stage them in a space-saving, decorative way, so that even everyday helpers such as kettles and milk frothers exude charm.

Purism for generous sleep

Purism makes small rooms big and is not to be confused with spartan furnishings. On the contrary. All accessories were carefully selected here: ceiling lamp, curtain, carpet, bedside lamp and chair. The pastel colored bedspread with a subtle structure gives the room a smart liveliness. Cleverly furnished, the few square meters appear generous - sleeping is possible in the smallest of spaces without being cramped.
