Advantages of high-gloss kitchens

  • Shiny, reflective surfaces make rooms appear larger.
  • Small kitchens look bigger when the fronts are white.
  • The high-gloss look stands for timeless, elegant and high-quality design.
  • The high-gloss kitchen can be planned and installed in as many different ways as any other, whether as a complete kitchen or just as an eye-catcher in the form of a kitchen island.
  • Paint fronts can be easily cleaned with a damp cloth and - if necessary - a little washing-up liquid.
  • High-gloss kitchens can be excellently combined with other furniture and kitchen worktops made of different materials - they offer a wide range of colors and harmonize very well with built-in appliances with a stainless steel look.

Disadvantages of high-gloss kitchens

  • A disadvantage of high-gloss kitchens is that damage such as scratches, dents or dents caused by swollen support material are very visible and can affect the overall picture.
  • Small scratches and quirks are not easy to repair, polish away or grind off.
  • High-gloss kitchens with real lacquer fronts are very expensive to buy.

Spatial effect of high-gloss kitchens

Shiny surfaces reflect the kitchen lighting, set highlights and create optical depth. The resulting reflections make high-gloss kitchens look much more lively than matt kitchen fronts and also have a magnifying and brightening effect. The use of high-gloss, bright materials is particularly worthwhile in small kitchens. The shine is also always associated with luxury, the elaborate lacquer process for the surfaces has a high quality and exudes exclusivity - a real dream kitchen.

Different coatings for the high-gloss kitchen

For the high-gloss kitchen, it doesn't always have to be real paint: it is more robust and durable than all alternatives, but it also has its price. The bright look of the high-gloss kitchen can be created with a wide variety of materials from affordable to high-priced. We give you an overview below.

foil

It is particularly cheap to wrap the kitchen. The plastic films are pressed under strong pressure on the carrier plate, which is usually made of MDF. Since the foils can be printed, a wide range of colors and patterns can be created. Foil fronts are very easy to care for, but they are also very sensitive to scratches. There is also a risk that the film will peel off over time, especially at the ends and corners, or that bubbles will form under water vapor.

acrylic

Acrylic fronts are available on the one hand from solid acrylic panels or alternatively from carrier panels that are coated with acrylic. They are particularly robust, easy to clean and, after a special seal, also scratch-resistant. They are similar to glass fronts, but are much more affordable. Their surface lets colors shine deeply and is also antibacterial, easy to care for and ecological.

Lacquer laminate

Fronts made of lacquer laminate are laminated with a plastic film that is also lacquered. As a result, the kitchen fronts of the high-gloss kitchen appear significantly higher quality than those with unpainted foils. The surfaces processed in this way are significantly more resistant and scratch-resistant and offer a wide range of colors to choose from.

Real paint

Lacquered fronts are the highest quality and noblest type of surface design for the high-gloss kitchen. Here the carrier plate is painted in several layers, consisting of a base coat and a hard coat, and then polished to a high gloss. Due to the various complex work steps, high quality is created, which of course has its price. You not only get the typically shiny, but also an extremely robust, hard-wearing, long-lasting and fully sealed, waterproof surface in a huge range of colors.

Glass

The most beautiful shine in the high-gloss kitchen is achieved with glass fronts. For this purpose, safety glass plates are placed on a carrier material and fixed. For a color effect, the glass plates can be varnished from the back, so that no color request remains open. Advantages of the glass are its insensitivity, easy care and heat resistance. Disadvantages are the price and the high weight. And if something does happen, read here how to remove scratches from glass.

Cleaning and care for a streak-free high-gloss kitchen

Your high-gloss kitchen can be so high-quality - strewn with stripes and streaks, the elegant look is quickly gone. But don't worry: that a high-gloss kitchen is difficult to clean and requires a lot of maintenance is simply a myth.

When it comes to choosing the cleaner, the motto is: less is more. It is usually sufficient to wipe the fronts with a damp cloth or a chamois. In addition to a few drops of washing-up liquid, a glass cleaner promises a new, streak-free shine because it dries without streaks. Under no circumstances should you use aggressive cleaning agents, scouring milk or products containing abrasive grains, as they make the surfaces dull and unsightly. Battery-operated window cleaners with appropriate cleaning agents are also suitable for cleaning. Always use only a few drops of the preferred cleaner and some clear, lukewarm water that you put on a damp chamois or cotton cloth. Microfiber cloths are not suitable because they can leave fine scratches and scratches.

Do not overdo it with the maintenance of your high-gloss kitchen, because that only leads to streaks and the shine is quickly gone.

High-gloss kitchens do not require any further care: greases, oils, impregnators or similar care products must be avoided, they are not suitable for kitchens with high-gloss fronts. Their ingredients settle on the surface and thereby reduce the light reflections necessary for the shine.
