The essence of Twitter could have its days numbered. Twitter is planning to increase the character limit for tweets to 10,000. At the moment we have already seen how direct messages (DM) have seen this increase.
Well, Twitter is also working on a project to increase the character limit of the tweets themselves from 140 characters to 10,000 characters Of course, At the moment there is no launch date for the project called internally as “Beyond140” (beyond 140, in Spanish), although it would arrive in the first quarter of this same year.
At least it is possible that 10,000 characters will be modified by another figure not yet confirmed and that they will test previously. The truth is that it is not something new and it would have been under debate since last September.
Twitter in testing
The same source reveals that Twitter is already testing long tweets in a very specific way. What it would do is display 140 characters by default with the ability to click a button to see the remaining content which we can't by default ie expand tweet
In this way the timeline would remain the same and the appearance of Twitter would remain minimalist both on the official websites and apps and on third-party apps. Sure to see tweets of 10.000 characters would be really difficult to examine our entire timeline, but it would add more to simple tweets.
In any case, we are talking about the fact that the 140 characters, the tweets or short messages, have been the essence of this social network and could be about to be a thing of the past.
What do you think about Twitter allowing you to post longer tweets?
