If you noticed, in Windows 10 all pictures you open open with the Photos app, and it's possible that when you've tried to change the application that opens them you find that there is not a specific one. Today we will teach you how to bring back the classic image viewer in Windows 10.
Although it seems to be a fairly specific problem, I have verified that in my version of Windows 10 the classic Image Viewer does not appear as an application to open images, come on, the one of a lifetime that has always state present in earlier Windows.
How to show the Image Viewer again
If you are one of the people affected by this problem and you want to open images with the classic viewer in Windows 10 but you don't know how to show it again, follow the steps below:
First of all you should know that we are going to work in the Windows registry and therefore you should be careful with the parameters that you modify already that there may be problems with the operation of Windows in the future. That is why we also recommend that you make a backup copy.
1. Press the key combination Windows + R and type in the window run “regedit” without the quotes.
two. The registry will open, look for the following folder through HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\photoviewer.dll\shell. When you find it, right click on the shell folder and click new/key. The new folder created is called Open.
3. Access the Open folder created in the previous step and in the blank space on the right click with the right button of your mouse and select New/String Value. Call it MuiVerb and open it with a double click to set it to the following value: @photoviewer.dll, -3043.
4. Now go back to the Open folder from before and right click on it, select new/key. Rename the created subfolder with the name of command.
5. Go into it, in the command subfolder, and now open the default that you will see inside. Enter the value %SystemRoot%\System32\rundll32.exe "%ProgramFiles%\Windows Photo Viewer\PhotoViewer.dll", ImageView_Fullscreen %1
6. Go back to the Open folder again, right click and select New/key. Name the new folder as DropTarget.
7. On the new folder and in the white part on the right right click and select new/string value. Call it CLSID. Open it again and set the value {FFE2A43C-56B9-4bf5-9A79-CC6D4285608A}
8. If everything went well and you have followed all the previous steps, all you have to do is restart the system and try again if among the possible applications to open images you get the classic Image Viewer.
