Android 4.4 KitKat, the latest version of Android, is now available on 8, 5 % of smartphones. In turn, Jelly Bean, the previous version, has decreased slightly in the last month.
Google is having a hard time getting rid of old versions of Android as manufacturers have followed a slow policy of updates. The mission is to have Android 4.4 KitKat in most terminals. Remember that Android 4.4 is capable of working with only 512Mb of RAM.
The three versions of Android Jelly Bean, from 4.1 to 4.3, go from 61.4% share to 60, 8%. This is a really important figure and one that could easily be reduced with updates by manufacturers. And it is also that 33.5% are still on Android 4.1.
On the other hand, older versions such as Android 4.0 still have a 13.4% market share in the Android world. For its part, Android 2.3 Gingerbread also has 16.2%. At least Froyo is nearly finished with only 1% terminals.
Android 4.4 grows but slowly
Android 4.4 KitKat already reaches 8.5% of Android terminals. Last month it had a 5.3% share, so it's actually the biggest rise. This is motivated by updated devices such as the Samsung Galaxy S4 and Note 3.
