We haven't gone crazy with this headline, but with the cat collar that spies on Wi-Fi networks we can easily hack networks from our neighbors, so we can now thank Gene Bransfield for this curious proposal.

Having a cat has never been so exciting, we can now equip it with a magnificent collar like this one, which incorporates a Wi-Fi card, a GPS module, a Spark Core chip, and a battery With this collar our cat will become a spy hacker for Wi-Fi networks, being able to locate open networks and hack those protected with WEP encryption

This idea came from Gene Bransfield, a security expert who was looking for a way to entertain those attending Defcon, a popular hacker conference. In any case, it ended up being seen as a perfectly viable project and within the reach of anyone, since to make it would cost us less than 100 dollars (about 75 euros).

Bransfield himself demonstrated that the project works, as his wife's grandmother's cat managed to geolocate 23 Wi-Fi networks in 3 hours, networks where by chance 1/3 of them were unprotected or protected with easily hackable WEP encryption.

With this collar if we let go of our cat, it will not only go for a walk all happy, but it will also bring us network informationof our neighborhood, without us having to do anything but wait for him to come back.

We are facing a curious project where Gene himself admits to having created it with the idea that the owners of open Wi-Fi networks or protected with WEP improve the system of security of these, so that no one can access them. We do not know how legal the use of the necklace will be, but at the moment we do not have this information.

What do you think of this smart collar? Would you be willing to make one for your cat?
