Almost all the new devices we buy today are equipped with intelligence, and therefore with an Internet connection. On this occasion, we will see the review of the Energy Sistem Smart Speaker Wake Up, a concept of smart alarm clockwhich will most likely surprise us.
Energy Sistem is a Spanish firm, known for its headphones, sound towers and smart speakers, among other gadgets in the world of audio. In this case we will talk about a alarm clock with Alexa, which at first glance is really striking, mainly due to its size.
Differentiating design
The design, despite being a fairly personal section, in this case seems careful. At the top of the speaker we find a 10 W wireless fast charging base with Qi technology, which avoids occupying the bedside table with separate wireless chargers.
In addition to the charging base, we can see the 13 buttons that it has, all of them finished in plastic, although not therefore they offer a bad keystroke.

There are many buttons on the Energy Sistem Smart Speaker Wake Up, offering keys for raising and lowering the volume, setting alarms or waking up the virtual assistant, the popular Amazon Alexa.
If we look at the alarm clock from the front, we will see that it has a huge screen in which multiple icons are integrated, which light up or they are turned off depending on the connection status, whether it is WiFi, Bluetooth or auxiliary cable.
The display is dominated by information of the hours and minutes, which can be seen from far away thanks to its size.

On the back we find the power outlet (this smart speaker does not have a battery), the 3.5mm jack connectionand, finally, a USB port that offers us a power of 10 watts (5 volts and 2 amps).
The USB connection has seemed really useful, since the Energy System Smart Speaker Wake occupies a plug, either in the wall outlet or in the power strip, but in return the USB is used to charge the mobile by cable.

On the sides we find the speakers, since in addition to being an alarm clock, this Energy Sistem Smart Speaker Wake Up can be use as a fixed speaker through any of its connections, whether wired or wireless.

Alexa as main character

Although it is not at all strange to see Alexa in a smart speaker, it is curious to see it in other models outside of the Amazon Echo, and Energy Sistem is the first Spanish brand to have integrated it.
From the buttons located at the top we can turn off the two microphones that the speaker has, although we will also have the possibility to wake up Alexa, either manually or through your voice.
Alexa, as we have already commented on other occasions, has multiple options such as the "Skills", which give us access to to numerous third-party services via voice: streaming music, news, home automation, online shopping, food delivery…
Setting the alarm is something that we can do with Alexa, independently of the ones of the Smart Speaker Wake Up. We can also create personalized routines with Alexa so that the virtual assistant chains the actions that we want with a activation command only.
The voice recognition that this assistant has in the Energy Sistem Smart Speaker Wake Up It is really fast, since it even detects it before an Amazon Echo.
On the other hand, we must say that, if we have two speakers that bring Alexa, one on each side of the bed, the sound of the alarm clock will be the same on both and will be reproduced in an "enveloping" way.
Conventional Features in a Smart Speaker
Smart speakers do not usually have a multitude of buttons like the Energy System Smart Speaker Wake Up, but in this case they are appreciated, since they allow you to use the external speaker and alarm clock functions without relying on Alexa.
Although at first glance they seem like a lot of buttons, in the end we make practical use of them. For example, to adjust the brightness of the screen, program alarms in a simple way, delay the alarm clock, volume up and down, skip songs…
We can perform all these actions from the physical buttons, completely independent of Alexa.

It should be noted that, above all, we are in front of a speaker, that is, even though the Smart Speaker Wake Up has an appearance alarm clock, it is a device aimed at playing music.
Therefore, we can choose which source we want the music to play from, be it Bluetooth, 3.5mm auxiliary cable or WiFi, as Alexa offers Amazon Music natively, and there are many musical Skills from third parties, including Spotify, Apple Music, or Tidal.
Large screen and useful information at a glance
If something stands out at first glance in the Energy Sistem Smart Speaker Wake Up it is its screen, which, despite not having frames that are too used, it is very useful because of its size, which makes it look really good.
Simplicity reigns on the screen, since first we find the time in a large format. We are not talking about a screen like that of a mobile, since it only allows the hour numbers to be displayed with a fixed design, in the style of a traditional alarm clock, in greyish white.
Around the hour and the minutes there are different smaller icons that indicate whether Alexa's microphones are on or off, if there is an alarm set, what connection we are using at that moment…
The screen is undoubtedly one of the most remarkable aspects, due to how good it looks from several meters away, also the automatic synchronization via WiFiwhich is useful if the power goes out or similar events occur.
Although the brightness of the screen is manually adjustable, we would have liked it to integrate a light sensor that automatically adapts to the situations light The ability to customize the style in which the time is displayed would also have been nice, although that would require other display technology.
The sound complies, but does not stand out
As we have mentioned before, although the Energy Sistem Smart Speaker Wake Up has the shape of an alarm clock, inside it first and foremost it is a smart speaker.
The maximum volume for a smart speaker of this size isn't too loud, but it does makes the sound fill the entire room The sound quality is not maintained, at maximum volume the speaker distorts the audio and we have found the "sweet spot" at level 3 out of 5.

It is a sound that is correct, but not spectacular, we must also realize that it is a loudspeaker whose main mission is to serve as a assistant at the bedside, which is really convenient thanks to the Alexa integration that it has.
The wake-up sound is configurable, although the default in our case failed to wake us up with facility Mainly because of the type of ringing, but also because of the volume, since it is not too insistent a sound when we use it as an alarm clock.
We would have liked that when we used it as an alarm clock it had a higher volume, or also that we could choose our favorite song from Spotify or another streaming service. The latter can be done through Alexa, but not with Energy Sistem's own alarm clock.
In addition, to select the specific song and not put us a similar playlist, we must have a paid subscription, either to Spotify Premium or Amazon Music Unlimited.
Like Amazon speakers, the Energy Sistem Smart Speaker Wake Up syncs with select devices including Alexa, which makes that, when programming an alarm, both sound at the same time.
For its part, the Spanish manufacturer allows you to listen to music on several speakers simultaneously if they are compatible with its multiroom system, which supports the rest of the Energy Sistem Smart Speaker range, among other models.
Own App

Despite the fact that Energy Sistem has a multitude of apps in the Play Store, we found it really useful that the Smart Speaker Wake Up has a specific app that makes up for some shortcomings that we find in other speakers.
The app is called Energy WiFi and if it's already interesting with one of these speakers, it'll be even more interesting if youwe have other devices with WiFi connectivity of the brand.
Through the application we can connect some streaming music platforms, among other services, to play them more easily on our speaker.
Unlike Google's smart speakers, where we can play content directly from music services like Spotify or Tidal, the Amazon Echo is a more complex task if we don't have a Spotify Premium account or Amazon Music Unlimited, linked to our account.
Energy Sistem has another app called Energy Music, with multiple options through which we can equalize the audio. In such a way that, depending on the speaker we have, the sound values will be adjusted so that the reproduction is the best possible.
A good device, but not such a good speaker
The Energy System Smart Speaker Wake Up is really complete as charging center for our smartphone via wireless charging or USB, since that has a connection on the back with an amperage of up to 2 A.
It will convince us if we are not too purists with sound and are looking for a smart speaker with an alarm clock, because smart speakers, although it is true that they also act as alarm clocks, visually they do not contribute much.
In this case, the ability to see the time, listen to music and consult the virtual assistant Alexa are some of the functions that make this speaker and alarm clock a special device that can be useful to many to start the day each morning.
The Energy System Smart Speaker Wake Up, as we have seen throughout the review, meets its objective, and belongs to a Smart Speaker range with devices for almost any room in our home, to enjoy a truly complete sound experience.
