Fashion Design

The design of the Realme 6 is very similar to a few mobile phones that we can find today on the market. In the front, the screen dominates, with a hole in the upper left part to house the selfie camera, a rear made of polycarbonatein which the cameras are in a vertical position and a mixed aluminum and plastic frame.

We are talking about dimensions of 162, 1 x 74, 8 x 8, 9 mm. Of these numbers, the thickness is obvious, although it is not something that has ever bothered us, nor its weight of 191 grams.

On the front, the side and upper frames are moderately well achieved, but the lower one is somewhat more voluminous than what "smartphone fashion" marks today.

The back is slightly curved on the sides, although a little more curvature would have been desirable to make the phone more comfortable in the hand. This does not mean that it is an uncomfortable terminal, but neither is it one of the most ergonomic that have passed through our hands.

This rear attracts fingerprints a lot, although in the white version that they have sent us they are not too noticeable to the naked eye, but if we look there they are.

The rear cameras protrude from the body of the Realme 6 which makes the phone "dance" when placed on the table.

On the right side we have the power button, which at the same time is the footprints side.

On the left we have the volume control buttons, located in a good position, although it is also true that a little lower would have been the ideal place, and the slot for SIM and microSD.

On the bottom is the 3.5mm headphone jack, the call microphone, theUSB Type-C and the multimedia speaker.

90 Hz gives a plus to the screen

The panel of the Realme 6 is of type 6.5-inch IPS LCD with resolution FullHD+ (1,080 x 2,400 pixels), 20:9 ratio, 90 Hz refresh rate and 405 pixels per inch density.

Before we get into what the screen looks like, we have to point out that we don't really understand the decision to have protection as old as Gorilla Glass 3.

Now we are going to talk about what the screen looks like. As it comes from the factory we can consider that the colors are a bit cold, although it is possible to change this through the configuration options it has. It improves the color, but even so it is a screen that tends to cold colors.

In terms of sharpness, the panel behaves well, in addition to having quite viewing angles that are quite decent and a brightness that we can consider enough indoors, but outdoors it is excessively fair, and there will be situations in which it will be difficult for us to see the screen.

The 90 Hz refresh rate is noticeable and quite a lot. It makes the screen feel more fluid, with more natural movement. When playing games, 90 Hz is much appreciated, since the sensation of movement, especially in games with a lot of action, is ideal for enjoying them.

The phone's sound comes out only through the speaker at the bottom of the terminal, so we do not have stereo sound.

Regarding the audio quality, some mixed feelings arise. While we found the volume to be more than adequate, the quality is somewhat overshadowed by the lack of bassThe sound in general is not bad and does not distort when turned up to the maximum, but the lack of bass makes it sound too linear and without body.

When we use headphones, the experience is totally satisfactory, since the sound is clear, full-bodied and it is much more recommendable to use headphones, either through Bluetooth, through the USB Type C connector or through the audio jack. 3.5 mm that brings the device.

In addition, the low volume, which is a problem that some smartphones have when we put the headphones on, does not happen here, since we have very good volume.

Successful performance

Let's see what moves this Realme 6 and then we will deepen our experience with the new device.

  1. MediaTek Helio G90T as processor.
  2. Mali-G76 MC4 as GPU.
  3. 8 GB RAM memory.
  4. 128 GB internal storage, expandable via microSD card.

In daily tasks such as browsing, posting the odd social network, some email and some WhatsApp, the Realme 6 behaves without the slightest problem, something normal on the other hand.

When we've run powerful games like Call Of Duty Mobile, for example, we've noticed that the load times are pretty good and the Game movement is too. The 90 Hz screen helps a lot when playing.

The Realme 6 is more or less fluid when we demand of it, something that we can expect from a phone in its range (even something better), although it is true that it gets quite hot when we are with this type of demanding apps. It's nothing worrisome, but something that happens.

With multitasking you can with some ease and up to a certain point. If we force a lot in this sense, there comes a time when it starts to slow down and have the odd break.

Regarding the Realme 6 operating system, it has Android 10 along with the brand's own interface, calledRealme UI This layer is very similar to ColorOS (Oppo's layer, Realme's sister company), although with themes and icons with their own style.

It's not exaggerated, but it does has some bloatware with applications like UC Browser, Opera and an application with an "R" as a symbol that has not been very clear to us what it is for, since it is in another language, which has nothing to do with Spanish and English, the two languages we use.

Realme UI has some interesting features: a well-done dark mode, many themes and icons to choose from, or the virtual button on the side of the screen where we can place apps that are needed at the moment, such as the calculator. So we have it at hand as soon as we press this virtual button, which we can also configure to our liking

Regarding the fluidity of Realme's skin, we can't complain, although (as with ColorOS) it has a design that could be improved to give it a more more modern touch and not so oriental taste.

Camera too dependent on light

The Realme 6 comes with a configuration of four rear cameras with different sensors:

  1. Main: 64 Megapixel, f/1.8, 26mm, 1/1.72", 0.8µm, PDAF.
  2. Wide: 8 megapixel, f/2.3, 13mm, 1/4.0", 1.12µm.
  3. Macro Sensor: 2 Megapixel, f/2.4, 22mm, 1/5.0", 1.75µm.
  4. Depth: 2 megapixels, 2.4 focal aperture.

If we take photos in automatic mode we will get very colorful snapshots, even a little oversaturated, with amore than adequate sharpness and really good clarity.

The main 64-megapixel sensor takes 16-megapixel photos automatically, unless we choose the specific option in the app on the camera to take photos with full megapixels.

In this case there is no substantial difference between photos with 64 or 16 megapixels. The only differentiating factor in capturing photos with maximum megapixels is the level of detail, something that will be of great help if we have to zoom in on the image. Of course, they are images that weigh a lot.

The photos with the wide-angle sensor turn out quite well, with good light and good color, although both theContrast and sharpness drop a lot compared to the main sensor. If we use this camera to take photos in low light, we will see that it suffers a lot.

We didn't like the macro camera too much either Taking photos with this sensor of close objects we can get decent photos, but at the moment when When we try to take snapshots of some flowers or fruits (to give two examples), the color tone of the photos varies and the photo worsens, showing that it is not a high-level sensor.

The Realme 6 has a 2x optical zoom, a 5x hybrid zoom and a 10x digital zoom. Starting from this we can say that the photos with the 2x zoom still have enough quality to post them on our social networks.

If we use the 5x zoom we already notice that the lack of sharpness and color is quite pronounced and if we opt for 10x, then we will see that these photos should not be worthy of being on our smartphone, unless unless it is an emergency.

The photos with the portrait mode (bokeh) have seemed quite correct, with a quite natural blur, although somewhat scarce in certain occasions, and with an adequate crop, in addition to having good colors and sharpness.

When the blur is scarce, we need to have some kind of marker in the camera app to assign more or less blur manually, as it happens in Samsung phones and that we already saw in the review from Galaxy A51.

When we take a photo at night with the main sensor, we observe that the capture of light is not bad, but sharpness and contrast drop entirely, as is normal.

Once we run the night mode we get more light in the photos, we can't reduce the noise but we can reduce the exposure. We also lose some sharpness and gain slightly in color.

The front camera is 16 megapixels, focal aperture 2.0, 26 mm, 1/3.1” and 1.0 µm.

With this front camera we were able to take some selfies that were quite decent and with natural colors, although this is only true in good light.

With low lighting the drop in quality of the camera is quite significant, preventing us from taking correct selfies.

If we use the portrait mode of the front camera, the results will be quite satisfactory, as we said in the previous paragraph, as long as there is good lighting. The clipping and blurring are good for the range we are in.

The Realme camera application has the following ways to take our snapshots:

  1. Auto Mode (Photo): to launch photos automatically.
  2. Night Mode: where it improves photos in low light or at night.
  3. Video: to record video.
  4. Portrait: to take photos with bokeh effect.
  5. 64M: uses all 64 megapixels of the main sensor.
  6. Time Lapse: Allows you to record in fast motion.
  7. Ultra macro: where we will use the macro sensor that comes with the camera.
  8. Cam. Slow: to record videos in slow motion.
  9. Expert: what is usually called manual mode, and where we manage the ISO, WB (image temperature), AF (aperture) or EV (exposure value).
  10. Panorama: Takes panorama style photos.

In unlocking, lights and shadows

To unlock the Realme 6 we have the two most modern options available: unlocking by fingerprint sensor (located on the right side of the terminal) and facial unlock sensor.

The position of the fingerprint sensor does not seem the most appropriate, especially if the future buyer is a left-handed person. That would imply that, to unlock with one hand, said person would have to use the index doing some juggling with their fingers.

Realme 6, complete analysis with opinion
Realme 6, complete analysis with opinion

Speaking of operation, our experience with the fingerprint sensor has been moderately good at all times. Yes, there are occasions in which it is difficult to read the print, but fortunately it is something that does not happen often. Regarding the unlocking speed, it is quite fast when reading our fingerprint.

The facial sensor is very fast and extremely reliable, although most of the time we have to press the unlock button for it to read the face. It has a system that when you pick up the phone, the screen turns on, but it doesn't always work well, so facial unlocking doesn't work either. We do not doubt that it is something that could be improved in future updates.

Better autonomy at 60 Hz

The Realme 6 has a 4,300 mAh battery with 30W fast charging.

We have carried out tests with the screen at 60 Hz and with it at 90 Hz and the differences have been substantial, greater than what we initially expected.

Assuming that we have one refresh rate or another, the terminal supports the whole day without any problem, although there are differences in terms of screen hours with both rates.

With a refresh rate of 60 Hz the Realme 6 has been close to 10 hours of active screen, while with the rate at 90 Hz the life of the screen se has reduced by almost two hours.

That is, it lasts us a day without problems, but with the Realme 6 at 60 Hz we could complete the day, which means that we could charge it in the morning while we get dressed, because with the charging system fast Super VOOC 30 W we can charge from 0% to 100% in 55 - 58 minutes approximately.

If we use the 90 Hz resolution continuously we will have to charge the terminal at night, as we have all done and do with many of our smartphones.

Realme 6, conclusion

The Realme 6 is a mid-range smartphone with many details that make it an extremely interesting terminal.

It is a phone that offers us details such as a 90 Hz screen, a versatile rear camera and quite good performance. It is true that Realme is not yet well known by the general public and there are still people who ask where this brand comes from, but they are doing very well and each terminal they launch surpasses the previous one, with the clear objective of unseating the almighty Xiaomi

Offering products like the Realme 6 we don't know if it will be able to dethrone Xiaomi, but what we are convinced is that they are going to make things more than complicated. Although Xiaomi has a much more extensive catalogue, in certain ""market niches" where Realme can enter the competition is going to be fierce.

Strengths of the Realme 6 in our review

  1. Good screen with the possibility of a refresh rate of 90 Hz.
  2. Fast charging is really fast.
  3. Performance has been consistent throughout.

Weak points of the Realme 6 in our review

  1. Cameras are very dependent on light.
  2. Both facial and fingerprint unlocking can be improved.
  3. Realme UI is a layer that should enhance your design.

  3. Hardware: 9
  4. Autonomy: 8
