A new mobile utility has been born and it is the possibility to see animals in 3D with the smartphone's camera using the augmented reality.
Can you imagine having a life-size horse in your living room? Well, with this simple tutorial you will know how to do it. This is a trick and can be done on both Android phones and iPhones thanks to the use of augmented reality.
The negative side is that not all of us will be able to reach the end, since we need the compatibility of our mobile with ARCore technology. The latter, combined with a simple Google search, does the magic.
To find out if the device is compatible, we must look for the model in the list of mobiles compatible with ARCore:
A year ago, during Google I/O, the company indicated that there would be 3D Google search. After a brief demonstration, they continued with the lecture. Now comes that possibility and this is how we can put it into practice:
- We open Google and search for "Pug" (a breed of dog), or any other animal that we want to see in 3D.
- When the search is carried out on a mobile we should see something similar to what we left in the screenshot below (3 examples).

- Click on "View in 3D" If the mobile is compatible with ARCore technology, the camera will open and we canplace that animal in 3D in any area of the room (we must aim at the ground and once the mobile is focused the animal will appear on the screen).
- If the mobile is not compatible, we will only see it in 3D, but on a white background.

If we click on the take photo button, we can save the snapshot of the 3D animals in our gallery
The list of animals that we can see in 3D is not very extensive, we assume that it will expand in the coming weeks and months. At the moment we have octopus, hedgehog, turtle, penguin, eagle, horse, cat, pug, labrador and rottweiler, wolf, bear, tiger, duck, pony, snake, shark, panda bear, goat, lion, cheetah, etc.
How do you like these 3D animals? Are you surprised by the capabilities of current mobiles?
