Not everything was going to be Android and Apple in the car, Linux also has its own system. Automotive Grade Linux is the new open source project that will rival all these systems from the big brands, including the one prepared by Microsoft.
Interestingly, Automotive Grade Linux has been developed from Tizen, the operating system developed by Samsung, Intel, and the Linux Foundation. The idea of this system for the car is the same as that of Google with Android Auto and Apple with CarPlay.
The thing is, Automotive Grade Linux or AGL is free and therefore its code is available to everyone, including car manufacturers who can incorporate it without paying. And it is that some like Hyundai, Jaguar Land Rover, Nissan and Toyota have shown their interest.
It also has collaboration for its development with Advanced Telematic Systems, Fujitsu, Harman, Intel, LG, NEC, Panasonic and Samsung.
We will have to see if Automotive Grade Linux succeeds and develops with interesting functions for cars. More and more people are interested in this sector.
